The cold of winter is really starting to settle in, but instead of rugging up and hibernating like the rest of us, Kohen Grogan plans to ride a floating bike from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island. With the help of Ocean Guardian, powered by Shark Shield Technology, Grogan will be taking on the icy 23km ride in waters well known for shark attacks. Grogan plans to tackle his ride between 1 – 14 June.

Although he’s previously described himself as “incredibly unfit”, Grogan aims to train hard in an effort to raise $10,000 to help build a school in remote Cambodia.

“Currently, most children have to travel 2.5 hours each way to get to school. There are also approximately 121 million primary and secondary age children that don’t have any access to education. To help this crisis we will also be building clean water drinking facilities, toilets and a solar station”, says Grogan.

To aid Grogan in his risky but courageous ride, Ocean Guardian will be loaning him a FREEDOM+ Surf to attach to his catamaran-bike hybrid. Ocean Guardian’s Shark Shield Technology has been protecting ocean adventurers for 20 years and has again recently been scientifically proven to significantly reduce risk and deter white sharks, with new research led by Flinders University and commissioned by the NSW Department of Primary Industries.

Lindsay Lyon, CEO of Ocean Guardian says, “We are honoured to be helping Kohen complete his ride by offering him a little extra protection to ensure he accomplishes the journey safely. We wish him all the best and sincerely hope he reaches his goal.”

Ocean Guardian Holdings Limited today, Monday 18th June, has confirmed the postponement of its listing on the ASX as a result of a future announcement which will have a positive and material effect on the company’s valuation.

The company still intends to list on the ASX with a new target date set for early 2019, and to support the company’s capital requirements as outlined in the IPO Prospectus we have commenced a private placement of up to $2M.

In addition to the already announced Ocean Guardian LR10 product priced at $2,499 targeted at the worlds fifteen million registered boat owners, the company will shortly confirm advancements in its quest to deploy new technology aimed at removing shark nets and drum lines from Australian beaches.

Ocean Guardian CEO, Lindsay Lyon stated, “We plan to deliver a technology solution which will make Australian beaches the safest in the world, and at the same time protect our oceans creatures from the inhumane devastation caused by shark nets.”

Why the push for SMART Drumlines? July 2018

Lindsay Lyon, CEO of Ocean Guardian, the only scientifically proven and independently tested electrical shark deterrent technology, is questioning the parties supporting SMART drumlines – a technology that has no scientific evidence to show the reduction in the risk of shark attacks.

Lindsay Lyon says, “The proposed drumlines being pushed by Federal Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg could cost WA tax payers up to $100m over 5 years. This figure could easily equate to 500,000 divers and surfers receiving the WA Government’s $200 rebate which would surely cover 100% of all the divers and surfers in WA with a proven deterrent device.”

Fisheries Minister Dave Kelly has also been quoted saying, “Do we really want to pay at least $100 million over five years for hundreds of baited hooks to be placed up and down our coast, when the Federal Minister has not provided any scientific evidence to show that these drumlines reduce the risk of shark attacks?”

Over the past five years, the NSW Liberal Government and former WA Liberal Government both invested in research on Ocean Guardian’s personal shark deterrents. Research that provided peer reviewed published scientific evidence that Ocean Guardian personal shark deterrents significantly reduce the risk of a shark attack.

The risk to the general swimming public is extremely low with surfers and divers the most at risk >70% of all fatalities. Of the 15 fatalities over 15 years in WA 13 were divers or surfers. Given the often-remote locations of these fatalities the only reliable method of offering protection for these ocean users is personal protection. Aerial surveillance, drum lines, shark nets may assist, however nowhere near the effectiveness of using personal deterrents.

“If 100% of surfers and divers used personal deterrents (akin to seat belts for driving) you will have solved over 70%...

Ocean Guardian, powered by Shark Shield Technology, is the world’s only scientifically proven and independently tested electrical shark deterrent, yet myths about whether it works and that it attracts sharks still exist, preventing this proven safety technology being broadly adopted. Today, marine biologist and shark conservationist, Amanda Elizabeth, provides the facts and once and for all, busts the myths surrounding the efficacy of electrical shark deterrents.

Amanda says, “There are so many unfounded claims surrounding Ocean Guardian shark deterrents, does it work and does it attract sharks. Having reviewed the independent research on Ocean Guardian technology and seen it in action, I can confirm that it does successfully act as a non-invasive deterrent. We need to set the story straight, Ocean Guardian’s Shark Shield Technology does not attract sharks and has been proven to deter great whites and bull sharks, just ask Bear Grylls.”

Myth 1 – The protective electrical field generated by Ocean Guardian’s Shark Shield Technology attracts sharks:
“It has been speculated that sharks may be attracted to large electrical fields over far distances, mistaking the emitted field for potential prey. Research on Ocean Guardian’s FREEDOM7TM, has proven this is not the case,” said Amanda.

Study 1 (Huveneers et al. 2013) – This theory was directly tested by investigating whether the electric field emitted by the FREEDOM7TM would influence the behaviours of sharks at a distance greater then 20m. The FREEDOM7TM was proven to not attract white sharks.

Study 2 (Kempter et al. 2016) – To claim that the FREEDOM7TM is not attracting sharks, it was proven that the average time taken for a shark to arrive did not differ between the control (device off) and active (device on). Again, proving that the device itself is not attracting sharks. It is important to note that according to South African National Space...

Ocean Guardian’s Shark Shield Technology proven again as the world’s most effective shark deterrent by French Government Research

Following the success of the West Australian Government’s Shark Deterrent Rebate program and several independent studies proving the effectiveness of Ocean Guardian’s Shark Shield Technology to deter sharks, now the French Government has released new research conducted in Reunion Island. The research affirms Ocean Guardian has the best deterrent technology available on the market worldwide, proving efficacy on white sharks.

Lindsay Lyon, CEO of Ocean Guardian said, “Reunion Island has long been known for its sharky waters and countless attacks over the years leading to a ban on surfing in many locations, and the latest shark attack fatality is tragic. Our technology can reduce the risk of shark fatalities and provide peace of mind so people can continue to enjoy the ocean without fear. Just like seat belts, people need to take all possible safety measures to reduce the their risk, including the use of proven shark deterrent devices for surfing, diving and other activities.”

The research findings from the French Government present Ocean Guardian as the front-runner in technology offerings currently on the market and also suggests that other technology being marketed as “shark deterrents” may not actually work and will not protect humans from shark bites as effectively as Shark Shield Technology.

The French Government tested and researched a range of products, including ESharkForce, No Shark, RPELA and Ocean Guardian’s FREEDOM7, FREEDOM+ Surf and SCUBA7.

Key findings from the latest research conducted by the French Government:

Ocean Guardan’s Shark Shield Technology demonstrates efficacy on the white shark*.
No safety product can be effective at 100% (seat belts, airbags, life jackets) however with the Ocean Guardian FREEDOM+ Surf the Ocean Guardian devices clearly produce the strongest electrical field. At 1M from the centre of the electrodes,...
Ocean Guardian (Shark Shield) remains only proven electrical shark deterrent

Ocean Guardian Holdings Limited, which opened applications for an ASX IPO on 10th May, are pleased to announce that new testing results reveal the FREEDOM+ Surf, powered by Shark Shield Technology, has been scientifically proven and independently tested to deter white sharks. All other shark deterrents tested failed, with limited to no effects on white sharks.

The new research undertaken in late 2017 and early 2018, led by highly regarded Associate Professor Charlie Huveneers of Flinders University, was commissioned by the NSW Department of Primary Industries and resulted in Ocean Guardian’s shark deterrent for surfers being the only device to significantly reduce risk. Following the findings, the FREEDOM+ Surf has been added to the Western Australian Shark Rebate Program, with WA residents now able to register for a $200 rebate on the only tested and proven shark deterrent designed for surfers.

Lindsay Lyon, Ocean Guardian CEO say, “The results of this latest testing are really no surprise to us. The Shark Shield Technology efficacy has been scientifically proven and independently tested time and time again in multiple locations around the world”.

“No safety product, whether it’s a seat belt, bike helmet or shark deterrent can reduce a 100% of risk. Mandated seat belts save lives and wearing a properly adjusted seat belt reduces the risk of fatal or serious injury by up to 50%. (NHTSA USA). This recent research shows that the FREEDOM+ Surf significantly reduces the risk of a shark encounter for surfers in an enticed baited scenario by up to 60%. In the test environment, you’re effectively surfing on top of a dead whale,” said Lindsay.

The research resulted in 297 successful trials undertaken at the Neptune Islands South Australia. During these trials, 44 different white sharks (Carcharodon carcharias) interacted with...

Terra Australis, a leading underwater production company, have added to their historical testing of shark deterrent devices by testing Shark Shield’s new surfing product with astonishing results. Their latest production released on (insert date) demonstrates never seen before efficacy of the personal shark deterrent.

Designed specifically surfers, the drone footage captured shows 100% of sharks immediately turning and staying away when the unit was in activation mode.

Johnny Debnam, Terra Australis Creative Director says, “There are a lot of myths about shark deterrents and over the years we have continually tested the various shark deterrents that have been released around the world and I have to say, the new Shark Shield FREEDOM+ Surf hits the mark and works like no other.” “52% of all shark fatalities in Australia are surfers and lethal methods such as shark culling, nets and drum lines are not the solution to protecting surfers and our environment”.

Terra Australis recently tested the new shark deterrent designed for surfers in a remote location known for significant shark activity with multiple species including Bull and Whaler sharks. The results of the test can be viewed here (insert video link).

As one of the most respected underwater creative teams in the world, Terra Australis’ mission is to light up the world through film. “We hope that our testing of personal shark deterrents shows surfers they can enjoy the ocean without a fear of sharks” adds Debnam.

Shark Shield, the world’s only scientifically proven and independently tested electronic shark deterrent, and Ocean & Earth are developing the world’s first proven in-built surfboard shark deterrent.

Lindsay Lyon, Shark Advocate and Managing Director of Shark Shield said, “The near miss Mick Fanning faced overnight further instills the need to create a safe environment for not only our elite surfers but for everyday surfers who love the sport. We believe this new product launching in early 2016 can do just that and take away the stress from surfers and families alike.”

Designed to not only protect surfers the new product is aesthetically appealing and has no impact on current surfboard manufacturing or the shaping design processes, and zero to minimal impact on surfboard performance. The patented innovation leverages the Ocean & Earth grip pad by mounting the miniaturised removable electronics in the kicker area, with a thin adhesive sticker on the underside of the board as the antenna.

Two times World Surf Champion and Shark Shield Brand Ambassador Tom Carroll says, “As a surfer, I have encountered marine creatures of all types and sizes. Sharks need our protection and I believe Shark Shield should be applauded for taking the health of this ancient species into consideration and at the same time as providing protection to humans who enter their territory.”

Shark Shield has signed a memorandum of understanding to co-design and develop the new range with Ocean & Earth. Bri

an Cregan, Founder of Ocean & Earth says, “We are excited to partner with Shark Shield on this new integrated product as they have the only proven shark deterrent technology. This innovation is great for the whole surf industry as it will encourage more people to take up surfing”

Shark Shield, the world’s only scientifically proven and independently tested electronic shark deterrent, is announcing a “Surf Any Break Without Intimidation” program for Reunion Island Surfers to get them back in the water safely.

Since 2011, the International Shark Attack File reports there have been 12 shark attacks in Reunion Island, five of which were deadly. Faced with the increase in deadly attacks, the prefect of the island announced a slew of measures in July, including banning swimming, surfing and body boarding off more than half of the coast; they also plan to cull 90 sharks—45 tiger sharks and 45 bull sharks.

Now that the ban on surfing in Reunion Island has expired, Shark Shield is offering to sponsor Reunion Island surfers to get back in the water safely with its “Surf Any Break Without Intimidation” promotion. The company is offering Reunion Island surfers a Shark Shield SURF7 for a once off price of US$399 (normally $599). The offer is only valid during the month of October, and the offer is only available to the first 300 surfers.

Lindsay Lyon, Chairman and keen surfer stated, “I can’t believe that we’d ever get to a point where a government would ban surfing, let alone decide to cull a species that across the board is endangered. There is a solution and we’re offering it now.”

According to Sea Shepherd, 100 million sharks are killed each year by sport fishermen or by those who practice shark finning, which consists of catching the fish and slicing off their fins while they are still alive.

The company’s electronic shark deterrent is the result of more than 20 years of scientific research by some of the world’s leading experts in sharks including the KwaZulu-Natal Shark Board of South Africa.

Australian surfing legend Tom Carroll has joined Shark Shield as its surfing ambassador.

The Australian-based Shark Shield makes the world’s only scientifically proven and independently tested electronic shark deterrent and is delighted the two-time world champion has agreed to endorse its products. Tom especially appreciates the fact that Shark Shield believes sharks deserve a place in the world’s oceans and that its electronic deterrents reduce interactions with humans without causing sharks lasting damage.

Tom said: “I have encountered marine creatures of all types and sizes during my 45-plus years of surfing and I’m always struck by their beauty, big sharks and all! “Sharks need our protection and I believe Shark Shield should be applauded for taking the health of this ancient species into consideration and at the same time as providing protection to humans who enter their territory. “This is a win-win situation — for surfers, divers and sharks.”

Tom will also be involved with the design of Shark Shield’s latest innovation aimed at keeping the waters safe — an electronic deterrent that leverages the surfboards removable fin and plug system, without impacting surfing performance. The new device will also be designed for stand-up paddle boards, which are increasing in popularity around the world. Tom Carroll was inducted into Australia’s Hall of Fame in 1992 and is one of the best surfers the country has produced. When surfing became a professional sport, he was recognised as a pioneer — not least for introducing scientifically based training principles.

Shark Shield Managing Director, Lindsay Lyon said he was thrilled that a surfer of Tom Carroll’s calibre had agreed to join the company. “Tom is admired by everyone connected with the sport and it is a great pleasure to have a surfer with his reputation help us promote safety not only in surfing but also in stand-up...
